You know it is poor when the Surgeon General issues a warning that lack of physical exercise is hazardous to your wellness. And that was back in ’96. Since then, the stats haven’t improved significantly, either: 25% of the American population is still sedentary and 60% do not exercise frequently (Reference: http://www.cdc.gov).



For fitness minded folks, we could do worse than to follow the "hour-a-day" prescription outlined by the Surgeon General’s Healthy Individuals Report. It is just a guideline, of course and, as you already know, any amount of activity packed into your busy schedule is going to earn you healthy rewards. But you can find plenty of other factors to physical exercise.



"If individuals exercised only moderately," says Janet Kneiss, Physical Therapist, "there could be far less incidence of injury. The 15 or so men and women I see daily, who come in with back and neck difficulties, normally don’t need to physical exercise, they want a quick fix."



The answer as she sees it?




"I feel, if people could just reframe the thought of it [exercise] being so considerably function and focus even more on the enjoyment of doing it, they would get the experience a lot more positive."



So, if physical exercise alone can keep you injury and disease absolutely free, how do you maintain it from being just a different issue "to-do?" Here are a couple ideas:



Do something you take pleasure in: This sounds incredibly hassle-free, but it’s worth mentioning. Strive for your individual ideal. A friend e-mailed to tell me he was gearing up for yet another 5K relay race. I wasn’t surprised. For a year he trained, dropped the weight and signed up. His initial objective was merely to finish. Did he do it: you bet. Did he function by means of an asthma attack to get across the finish line? He did, but he kept going. Now, he continues to train and enhance his time with each race. His secret, he tells me: enjoy the journey, live in the moment, and focus on your personal very best.



"So, Laura, what’s the take house message?" you ask. Never mind what every person else is doing. Remain focused on you, performing what you get pleasure from and what exactly is fun and exciting for you. Understand everything you may about wellness and fitness. Then, do the most effective you can actually. In so doing, you are going to be an inspiration for others.
